We can do and have done nothing to make God love us. He just does. God loves us because it is His nature to love.
One of my favorite verses is Jeremiah 31:3, which states: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness I have drawn you.” There is nothing we can think, say, or do that will make God love us more. He loves. Period. He loves us. Period. He loves you. Period.
Even after years as a Christian, I need to be reminded that I am worthy of God’s love not because of me, but because of Him. Because God says He loves. Because God’s Word says He loves me. Because He is love (I John 4:8).
And because He is love, we want to learn to live worthy of His love. As scriptures states: to walk worthy of the Lord: pleasing in all, bringing forth fruit in every good work, and growing in the knowledge of God, (Colossians 1:10) A believer has a raised standard of actions. We are to live in such a way as to honor Christ. We evaluate what in our life reflects God’s love. And then we continue to act in a way that honors God, not because it will make Him love us more.
But because it is an act of our love for Him.
