Hindered Prayers

Hear me, Lord and answer . . . Psalm 86:1

Why doesn’t God answer my prayers?

Bluntly.

Sin separates us from God.

But your iniquities have built barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear. Isaiah 59:2

Then they will cry out to the LORD, but He will not answer them. At that time He will hide His face from them because of the evil they have done. Micah 3:4

When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide My eyes from you; even though you multiply your prayers, I will not listen. Isaiah 1:15

Ouch.

But. Although David sinned, he is called a man after God’s heart. Why?

Because he was quick to repent.

O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You understand my thoughts from afar. And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way. Psalm 139:1-2, 24

None of us can see our own errors; deliver me, LORD, from hidden faults! Psalm 19:12.

We mess up. We do something, say something, have inappropriate thoughts, etc…. We all do. Romans 3:10 says no one is righteous.

Thinking they were righteous, the religious leaders of Jesus’ time thought they were above reproach. Yet, they are the ones that Jesus spoke against frequently. Self-righteousness was and is rampant!

If you find your prayers are not answered, examine your life and heart.

The secret to answered prayers is repentance. We need to humbly confess and turn away from our errors so God will hear our prayers.
